My First Tattoo

One World, One Dream, My Ass

Phoenix / 39 Candles / Prayers

Wednesday, Oct. 01, 2003 - 7:01 a.m.

Well.

I've decided to get ink done.

I know what I want, and why I want it -- it's just a question of finding exactly the right design.

I've decided I want to get a phoenix.

As you know, the phoenix is a bird that is reborn in fire. I feel like that's been happening to me all my life, namely periodically fading away and then coming back stronger. I'm an Aries, so Fire has always been my element anyway.

And I feel like it's just recently happened again. So maybe it's time.

As for the tattoo itself, Paul Schultz gave me some good advice. He has several of them, the prettiest of which is the one which contains the names of his children. He said be careful not to get something too elaborate, because there was a chance that it would blur with age -- and for god's sake to please take my time deciding, because for those of us plebes who can't afford the fancy skin sandblasting to undo whatever gets done, a tattoo is a lifetime committment.

So my plan is, I'm going to spend a lot of time selecting and refining a design.

Then I'm going to go and put it on the mirror in the bathroom -- or maybe on my altar. Or here on the monitor's case. Somewhere where I'm forced to look at it as often as possible. And by then I will have decided where it's going to be applied. I was thinking maybe on one of my upper arms, where the doctor gives vaccinations. Still haven't decided, though.

If I'm not tired of looking at it by the time my birthday rolls around in a little over six months, I'll probably get it done then.

Speaking of birthdays -- Happy birthday to my friend Scott Hysmith.

If memory serves me correctly from last night, technically since we were communicating at nine pm pdt my time, I was in fact the very first person to wish you h.b. on the actual day itself, since it was midnight in your neck of the woods. Scott, you share your birthday with a variety of people including Vladimir Horowitz, Mark McGwire, Esai Morales, Randy Quaid, Julie Andrews, Tom Bosley, George Peppard, William Rhenquist, and Richard Harris.

But of all of these people, you are still my favorite.

Happy birthday, love. Many happy returns.:)

UPDATE: 10:56 am...

Just a quick but important update to let you know that if I'm not around online too much in the next few days, it's for a reason.

My brother called me about an hour ago to let me know that my maternal grandmother is near death, and after we discussed it, a DNR is being placed on her chart. She is nearly 91 years of age, and she misses her husband very much, who passed away in 1981.

If you are inclined to recite incantations to a particular deity or deities, please do so with the wish for her freedom from pain, and for a peaceful transition from this incarnation to the next.

Thank you all so much.

I will post updates here as they become available...

All good thoughts are being sent to your Grandmother as we speak. Please know that my continued good thoughts are always; and will always be, with you and your family. I love you. Jamie
