Friday Five / TV Stuff Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 - 7:10 a.m. This week's Friday Five: (Questions are boldface, my answers appear beneath.) Who do you call first? A: John, if he's not nearby. What is the first thing you buy for yourself? A: I'd buy your looo-oooo-oove... Actually, the VERY first thing I would get is a great big chinese dinner from Yet Wah. What is the first thing you buy for someone else? A: A new entertainment center for John, and all of the DVDs still on his wish list. Do you give any away? If yes, to whom? A: College scholarships for my nephew and niece, and a couple of other children whom I love very much. Do you invest any? If so, how? A: Probably certificates of deposit, and Marsh stock. Yeah I know, mundane. But still good investments.
--- Okay. Now, if you wanna play Friday Five, go here. --- Well. The end of an era is at hand. Disney and Pixar are having a parting of the ways. Pixar is a standalone movie production company, hired to produce the product, and Disney is the machine that publicizes and distributes the movie. But guess what? Pixar has the right to look for a better distribution deal at other companies, and Warner Brothers, Fox, and Sony have all expressed interest in obtaining distribution rights. Fox offers distribution rights for a flat fee, which is the deal Pixar wanted from Disney, so my guess is that's where they're moving. IMHO, Disney just hasn't been the same in recent years, and it's the reason Roy Disney (Walt's nephew) resigned from their board. --- In other news, I think I've finally seen something more putrid than Teletubbies. I didn't think it was possible. But this morning, over on The Learning Channel, I'm looking at something apparently called 'BRUM', featuring the adventures of a scaled-down model car. I guess I'm just not in touch with my inner child or something. Or maybe I'm just tired of the rain. --- Well, I've decided I like the Ellen DeGeneres Show. It took me awhile to decide, but I like it. Ditto the new Dennis Miller Show on CNBC. He is still just as subreferentially obtuse as he ever was, but then again that's what I adore about him. --- OK -- that stupid show is over and I just watched the credits. No wonder. It's from the same people accountable for the Teletubbies. Ewwie. ---
