Eid Stamp Response

The landlord dropped by yesterday to see about our leaky sink. He took a look at the problem, muttered something about how much it would cost, and disappeared again, but not before he said he would try and get a contractor there this week, and apologizing in advance if there was not a 24 hour notice.

Later in the day when the mail was delivered, the Tenant's Union handbook arrived.

I'm reading off and on about my rights as a tenant in San Francisco, and I'm divided between rolling my eyes and cackling with glee.

I think the next time the landlord is here, I'll let him see me reading the handbook.

The email below is making the rounds yet again:

Dear Fellow Patriotic Americans:

REMEMBER all the AMERICAN lives that were lost in those vicious MUSLIM attacks.
Now the United States Postal Service REMEMBERS and HONORS the EID MUSLIM holiday season with a commemorative first class holiday postage stamp.
I strongly urge you to REMEMBER to adamantly and vocally BOYCOTT this stamp when purchasing your holiday stamps at the post office. To use this stamp would be a slap in the face to all those AMERICANS who died at the hands of those whom this stamp honors. I also strongly urge you to pass this along to every Patriotic AMERICAN you know, whether by email or otherwise.

I've decided it's time for a response to this email. Try this on for size:

REMEMBER the CHRISTIAN religion of Adolf Hitler (Catholic)!
REMEMBER the CHRISTIAN terrorist, Timothy McVeigh!
REMEMBER the CHRISTIAN suppression of ideas and enlightenment during the Dark Ages!
REMEMBER the CHRISTIAN extermination of the Native American cultures!

REMEMBER all the HUMAN lives that were lost in those vicious CHRISTIAN attacks.

Yes, please! Let's stop confusing Muslims with Islamic Jihadists, and REAL Christians with those who just CLAIM to be Christians. Leave us not forget that even though every version of the New Testament says slavery is a no-no, several generations of Americans pretended that this particular Christian teaching did not apply to people who weren't white. We fought the bloodiest war in U.S. history and wiped out two-thirds of an entire generation to end slavery...and there are STILL "christians" today here in America who think it's OK to practice unfair discrimination against blacks (not to mention any other minority group that happens to make them feel threatened).

That was fantastic...truly fantastic. I laughed, but then just smiled, because I wonder how many more people would forward the second email than the first? Considering the worldwide population and the hatred of imperialism and all...hmmm...you better be careful, you could get all famous and stuff.
