Friday Five & Zipper Vibes

Friday, May. 02, 2008 - 12:34 a.m.

Official iPod Universal Truth Number One:

Until one loses their iPod earphones, a person never has any idea how many other things around the house actually resemble thin white cords.

Yes, I found them -- sitting next to some crochet thread.

After, of course, having looked straight at them about six times during my search.

---

I got a nice funny letter back from the Sugar Babies lady; she's sending an extra package for my trouble and letting me keep the handcuffs.

And yes, before you wonder, my mind is at times terribly lost in this thicket of what sort of things a person is likely to accomplish with two boxes of Sugar Babies and a pair of toy handcuffs.

---

Well, darn. Sad news for me because I've seen these guys play in person.

One of the Hager Twins died.

Jim & Jon were the semi-longhaired gangly fellas who were regulars on Hee Haw.

Jim died of a heart attack yesterday at age 66.

I saw the Hagers performing with Buck Owens about thirty million years ago at the Yuba Sutter Fair.

---

In other so-called news -- I'm actually starting to get a little worried about Jim Davis.

I know this thing keeps making the rounds and I'm way behind the times, but here.

Check out Garfield Without Garfield.

Actually, seriously, Mr. Davis does read it and he thinks it's great.

Obviously a well-adjusted guy, after all.

---

Late tonight or extremely early Saturday, Zipper will be reunited with Art.

Words cannot express how amazing Rosie has been to make the seventeen hundred mile round trip.

As this is posted, between Thursday and Friday, she has stopped to sleep. Yay!

Thanks to everybody who is sending good wishes to her.

I'm wondering how Zipper is going to fare in Tombstone, though; an inside cat who has never been off leash is an easy target for the stinging and biting things that abound in the desert; coyotes, brown recluse spiders, scorpions... eesh. Art, PLEASE keep Zipper onleash for at least the first six months of his life there.

I don't even wanna think of what would happen otherwise.

Friday Five!

What's one of the nicest things a friend has ever done for you?

The fact that there are too many to list tells me I am a lucky person. In general, anytime I step off of a plane and into a car contaning food or drink for me? Heaven.

What's one of the nicest things a stranger has ever done for you?

I am constantly amazed at the number of men who reach up and get my carryon out of the overhead bin. They're all wonderful.

What is a trait in another person that you instantly admire, and that draws you to them?

In a stranger, courtesy. In a potential friend, a sense of humor.

What is a trait in another person that instantly repels you, and prevents you from forming a close relationship with them?

People who judge me before meeting me. A bunch of assholes over on a Usenet newsgroup did this to me last year, which is why I don't bother with that bugfarm anymore.

Time to vent: tell us about something rotten someone has done to you.

If I mentioned it here, the person I'm thinking of will end up jobless and in prison. I'd rather avoid that nonsense.

Okay, link is to the left.

---

Yesterday, for Beltane, I put my pentacle back on for the first time since passing through airport security on my way to Sacramento.

This is the second longest time it's been away from me this long.

But it's back now.

---

Okay, done. Have a good Friday, and send good vibes to Rosie and Zipper! Yay!

That's the first I had heard about Jim Davis taking Garfield away from Jon. I was reading them and it's kinda sad, but kinda funny too!

I'm glad to see that Davis has a healthy sense of humor about it. There was another remix site a while back, the "Garfield Randomizer" that spun up three random panels into a three panel strip, with occasionally hilarious results. They lasted a few weeks before the C&D arrived. But yes, the "Garfield Minus Garfield" site made me go back and re-read my old collections in a whole new light.
