Run DNC

Wednesday, Jun. 04, 2008 - 8:44 a.m.

Barack Obama has secured enough delegates to be declared the winner of the Democratic nomination.

---

I'm seeing folks who have problems with how the Michigan and Florida delegates were seated by the DNC and I don't know why.

The DNC rules for voting in a Presidental primary were set a long time ago, with due consideration given to which states could vote when The Democratic leadership of both Michigan and Florida both chose to break the rules and allow primaries to take place prior to the assigned date on which to do so, thereby rendering the votes null and void. The DNC didn't do this; the individual democratic parties in each state did.

By law, the DNC wasn't required to acknowledge the existence of the delegates in either state at all, because both states deliberately chose to have early primaries in direct violation of what they were told to do.

So the fact that they received half-credit? That's like receiving a half-credit in school despite cheating on an exam.

Be glad there's any value awarded to the votes at all. If there's blame to be assigned, be sure it's to the correct source.

One would think the rule "Don't set a date to hold a primary vote before we say it's okay, or your delegates won't count" would have been an adequate and simple and FIRM enough rule for Michigan and Florida's Democratic leadership to have been able to understand and follow, but even the thought of disenfranchising over a million and a half voters wasn't enough to get the attention of the Democratic leadership of those states and prevent them from gerrymandering themselves out of being represented -- which shows you exactly how much Michigan and Florida actually care about their Democratic voters.

Regardless of the fairness factor that any of us believe was or was not present, what happened in these two states is going to affect how people vote in the future, and how primary election policies are set henceforth. We haven't seen the last of this.

As for a dream ticket? Somehow I don't see Hillary settling for Veep.

I'd like to see Obama at least approach Colin Powell as a possible running mate.

Finished off the chinese food last night and switched to rip-and-pour; John had taquitos and I had fishy stickies.

No health updates, other than that my mouth is less sensitive than the day before, and I'm still peeling.

That's really about it. Have a good Wednesday!

obama can run, but he will not win, the DNC Screwed the pooch with thier cockamamie rules, and therefore ruined the vote by the PEOPLE and the delegate count!! the democratic party is in a shambles, and it will take many years to fix it. putting a do-nothing one-quarter term senator with no prior political background under his belt and making him the democratic nominee for president is just assinine. the real reason he ran for the senate was to run for president, look at his senate record. voting "present" the majority of the time! what has he done for the people of illinois? NOTHING! ask any illinoian, they will tell you the same thing. obama is all smoke and mirrors, and if the people of these united states are stupid enough to actually elect this man president on the basis of "historical value" then this country im sad to say will go down in flames.

I disagree. I think Hillary will settle for VP. She did already mention something about it -- much to everyone's chagrin. As for Art? I disagree with him as well. I think that if Barack adds Hillary to his ticket, the sky would be the limit. And now Obama is testing higher in the polls, beating McCain in some already! And both Obama and Clinton have unwillingly learned something without even trying over the past year and a half: How to debate. It's going to be a fun, albeit bumpy ride to the White House. Fasten your seatbelts. Love you, Brin!

I will vote for McCain if Obama puts Clinton on the ticket.
