Keane @ Fox Theater, Oakland Saturday, May. 09, 2009 - 3:54 a.m. Friday evening, John and I went to the Fox Theater in Oakland to see Keane. The Fox Theater is a newly renovated old building with stunningly gorgeous vintage decorations. If you did nothing else but go sit in the theatre after ingesting your legal hallucinogen of choice, and just did your very best to stay mellow and stare at the walls, you'd really have a magnificent time regardless of whether anything was happening down on the stage. The opening act was Helios, a northwest duo that was really good, albeit a little loud for the venue. John and I were in the mezzanine level, which is why the only really good picture of Keane looks like this:
Honest, that really is them down there. But we also discovered an advantage to the mezzanine that couldn't have been forseen -- more than a few people were brave enough to sneak hits from some home-rolled items that they'd smuggled in for the occasion, and the air near us was bluer and skunkier than in the rest of the theatre. I am missing at least two here, but the set list, almost sort of not quite in order was: "The Lovers Are Losing", "Everybody's Changing", "Bend And Break", "Nothing In My Way", "Again And Again", "This Is The Last Time", "Spiralling", "Your Eyes Open", "We Might As Well Be Strangers", "You Haven't Told Me Anything", "Leaving So Soon?", "You Don't See Me", "Perfect Symmetry", "Somewhere Only We Know", "Crystal Ball", "Is It Any Wonder" and "Bedshaped". We got around ninety minutes of music. --- The Fox Theatre is a wonderful venue, and I hope to see more events there in the future. I heartily recommend this product or service. That's it, kids. Have a wonderful Saturday. ---
