Root Note Notes

Thursday, May. 21, 2009 - 12:00 a.m.

I'm really learning lots of good stuff at the Study Bass website.

The guy said something really kind of interesting; he said bassists are in demand, and that once a bass player can get the root note down of a given chord, it probably won't be difficult to find work.

Wow. That just blows me away. Playing bass for me is really fun -- the thought of actual tip money for doing something so easy?

Stunning.

---

The next band practice is on the 31st.

If something happens and the Official Regular Bassist can't make it, I just *might* be willing to try and at least fill in and do the basic root notes.

But the question now remains as to whether or not I can sing while I'm playing. Heh.

So far, I can't. As of this writing, if the ORB is MIA, the band will either have me as a background vocalist or a basic bassist.

Not both, though! But we'll see what develops in ten days of practice.

---

Nothing else to report. Have a good Thursday.

And if you're on the road today or tomorrow for Memorial Day?

Safe travels!

That's it. See you tomorrow!

Wow, I just sent you an email - anyway, just read your post. And you know, he's right. Bass players *are* in demand. I never told you, but my first paying gig out of college was playing bass, first in a studio, then for a live show. I began known among these people as a bass player, and the piano identity didn't kick in until later. Now I hardly ever play the bass - but anyway, I agree with that guy about the need & demand for good bassists.

I see people who play the bass and sing. I know it can be done. However, you and anybody else who is about to encourage me to do it and good luck and go for it and whatever the hell else obviously have forgotten that I have a learning disability that makes it really difficult to do more than one thing at a time! :-)

I guess that's how a lot of performers feel -- "Wow. I get paid for doing something fun!"
