Hometown Week

Tuesday, Oct. 06, 2009 - 3:08 a.m.

I'll be very glad when this week is over.

---

Craig Ferguson began his Monday into Tuesday show with the sentence "I'm sure you all know now how I got my job."

---

Leading feminists are neither leaders nor feminine.

Especially if they go on record as forgiving Roman Polanski.

---

Wait, bloggers have been making money?

Where the heck have *I* been?...

---

About once a month, I go over to the online version of my hometown newspaper and read the police blotter and the obituary section.

Sometimes I see people I know having bad luck, or even worse.

Once I looked in the wedding section and saw the children of two of my classmates getting married.

I decided I'd rather look at the obits because as long as I'm still on this side of the dirt? My luck's running.

---

That's it. Have a good Tuesday.

You know me, and my personal philosophy is about forgiving EVERYBODY, being as it is only up to God to judge. But that's not the same thing as EXCUSING somebody, and what Roman Polanski did was just plain wrong, on an absolute moral level. The thing I find most bizarre is that he and others seem not to see the wrongness in it, and I can't help but wonder if their perceptual paradigms are really that warped, or if on some level they are only making excuses for their behavior. Call me old-fashioned, but I tend to think that we all know right from wrong, deep down. It's just that in the heat of the moment and passion, we don't always all stop to think about it before taking actions that will - or at least ought to - have consequences. That Roman Polanski eluded his sentence for over thirty years is only an indication of his intention to escape the consequences, which shows where he is at in terms of his moral compass. Of course he should be brought to justice. In fact, while a lot of people would like to see the sodomy returning to his own behind in some smelly cell for the rest of his days, and I wouldn't mind either, we have to question the motives of people who say such things. Does it make them feel better about themselves, knowing they'd do the same or a worse thing if they thought they could get away with it? I lived with a couple people like that recently, and it wasn't a whole lot of fun. In my case, I tend to think that the more he can get it on the receiving end (pardon the clinical image), the moer likely he is to finally see the true nature of his wrong, and therefore feel conscience, and repent as we say, and possibly make it to heaven as opposed to the alternative. And I know that not everyone sees it that way, so thanks for letting me share.
