Thank you for your kind comments on Winston. Yes, it was the right thing and the right time. It still hurts to come home to a VERY empty house, though... *sighs* On the subject above; I've commented on this before. I am not against weddings or civil unions of gays (i.e., the state legally recogizing the union for estate purposes) but I am against gay *marriage* as that word comes from a Christian sacrament and should be respected (says this Druidic Pagan) just as I would want them to respect my beliefs and rituals. Since Christians believe that a "marriage" is between a man and a woman, that should be respected. The above example you gave still fit this definition (and yes, I know that many tried to use various bible verses to "prove" that blacks and whites should not cojoin) whereas a union between two people that, while they love each other deeply, are committed to each other and vow to care for each other, will never fit the sacramental definition of "marriage." Semantics, I know... but still.
