Monkeying Around

Saturday, Apr. 22, 2006 - 3:09 a.m.

Friday night, we began watching King Kong, and we finished on Saturday morning.

Wow, what a truly amazing homage! Lots of excitement, lots of faithfulness to the original, and special effects that will literally take your breath away.

This isn't really a spoiler, per se, just some advice to liven up your viewing experience.

There's a scene near the middle of the movie, about eighty-five minutes in, where there are lots of Giant Hungry Bugs gnashing at everybody. You know, with drool, and rows of legs, and big wispy feelers and the whole nine yards.

I had to look away, and John kept watching, sitting with the posture I prefer to call 'Cringing Burn Victim in the Dentist Chair' -- arms bent at the elbows, fingers curled, and him only touching his recliner with his asscheeks and the back of his neck.

Dear readers, few things have tempted me more than looking at the Swiffer Duster just within reach, and wanting so badly to sneak it into my chair, wait for a particularly buggy moment, and then graze John on the side of the neck with it when he wasn't paying attention to anything else but the movie.

But I did not.

However, maybe YOU will.

Today is Earth Day.

It is also the day my Dad was born. If you've never clicked on the starfish to the left, please go and do so today, and read about him.

All right, that's it. Have a good Saturday.
