Codes And Legs

Monday, May. 22, 2006 - 12:51 a.m.

Regarding the Da Vinci Code, I haven't gotten around to reading the book yet, so I'm obviously in no hurry to see the movie.

However, one thing about the entire Da Vinci Code craze has puzzled me for some time now. There are people who claim to be deeply religious who are asking people not to read this book or watch this movie, as it's being perceived to be blasphemous or some such as that.

The reason this strikes me as peculiar is because I always thought people who were strong in their faith didn't mind when it was tested.

Wouldn't the truly faithful WELCOME opportunities to have their faith challenged?

Does not compute.

We don't get stronger if we're never tested.

Apparently the miners' interview was interesting and was very well received.

The news is that Diane Sawyer has secured the USA rights to interview them and they'll be here in a couple of weeks if they get a clean bill of health for extended travel.

Both men are still recuperating from their injuries and there's been rumors of deep vein thrombosis, and possible kidney trouble.

We'll see. I hope they can come visit us here.

Barbaro has had surgery, and post-surgical x-rays show a set of repair hardware inserted into the bones that Evel Knievel would be jealous of.

Like Evel, Barbaro's racing days are past. Now all they want him to do is live long enough to father a few more foals.

Dunno about that, though.

If *MY* leg were broken in three places, fucking would be the last thing on my mind for quite awhile.

The rain finally stopped right at sunset:

We go long stretches of days with no sunshine and then this happens.

Worth it? I think so.

---

Okay. Have a good Monday.
