Late Friday Five / Bill's Saturday, Jun. 03, 2006 - 2:33 a.m. On This Date: Billy Joe McAllister jumped off the Tallahatchee Bridge. --- The Friday Five turned out to be interesting so, here it is, delayed a day.
Educating Rita, Local Hero, Comfort and Joy, Les Comperes. Favorite musicians / groups of the 1980s? Kate Bush, Phil Collins, A Flock Of Seagulls Favorite TV shows of the 1980s? The Cosby Show, whatever David Letterman's show was called when it was on NBC, Night Flight on USA, Pee Wee's Playhouse. Favorite inventions of the 1980s? The personal computer. World Event from the 1980s that stands out in your mind? Oh, gosh. 1989 was chock ablock. Tianamen Square, Berlin Wall, Loma Prieta Friday Five to the left. --- The fog did something so interesting Friday morning that I am going to try and share with you. The sky was terribly dark, so I did brighten it just a little and turn up the contrast just a little, but i swear to you the colors have not been changed at all. Fog was rolling in at sunrise, but we down on earth weren't seeing the sun. However, it was up high enough to color the fog. We're talking Parrish Blue with hot pink: --- Friday morning, the Australian miners appeared on Good Morning America. Both of them looked really good, but they only got here to the USA on Wednesday and they looked as if they could have gone back to sleep within five minutes. The jet lag and the bright studio lights turned them into a pair of squinty-eyed but good-humored blokes. As it turned out, they'd snuck out for a beer the late night before, which Todd Russell referred to as 'shithouse'. Well, fellas, that's what you get for drinking macrobrew beer. Should have asked the locals what was best. Diane Sawyer kind of threw softballs, mainly questions consisting of recaps of what had happened, but the exposure to the American public probably means that those men will be much richer when they head home. --- Friday afternoon, I was considering taking a nap, and at about 130 in the afternoon my cell phone rang, and it was Bob, seeing if I was decent. I asked for a half hour to make that very attempt, was granted it and at two in the afternoon, the door buzzed. Bob supplied the appropriate password, and I went downstairs and he handed me my Yulebirth present, (the complete season of Firefly! Yay! Thank you, Bob!) and we went to lunch. Bill's is a local fixture here in San Francisco, and it was in walking distance. It was deceptively overcast, but once we began walking, the humidity just sort of draped itself over us. I showed Bob the old blue Police and Fire box, and he marveled that they even still existed. Two excellent hamburgers later, we started walking off our meal. Bob stopped at a specialty store that had Chinese groceries, and bought himself some of those weensy little peanuts that you can't find anywhere else. We parted company at a corner a couple of blocks from my home, and I headed over and got my hair cut. The ladies at my regular place were shocked to see me, because I hadn't been there since October. I got a really good haircut. --- Those are the highlights. Have a lovely Saturday. ---
