Italy! Sunday, Jul. 09, 2006 - 1:56 p.m. Zidane! You DUMBASS!!! --- Congratulations to Italy, the 2006 FIFA World Cup Champions. Here's what Zidane did to earn my wrath:
Zidane ended his career when the referee dismissed him five minutes into the second period of extra time with the score tied at 1-1. Zidane had scored in the ninth minute from a penalty kick before Materazzi made it 1-1 in the 19th minute in the Olympic stadium. The 34-year-old Zidane, playing in his final game, had the best chance of the extra period when goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon tipped his header over the crossbar. It's been a good month of games, and I've seen the best and worst in the players. And admittedly, I'm not the biggest soccer fan in the world -- but there's still something so appealing on a gut level when one stops and thinks of the fact that there are over a billion people on earth doing exactly the same thing you are doing, namely simply sitting and enjoying a game. --- There you go. See you tomorrow. ---
