Catching Up

Monday, Jul. 17, 2006 - 12:45 a.m.

There's been another tsunami and there's about half a dozen people confirmed dead there.

Ground forces from Israel have entered the south of Lebanon, in search of their two lost lambs.

Discovery is still about five and a half hours away from landing as of this writing.

And oh yeah, Whee, Disneyland is fifty-one years old today.

As you can see, there's just too much bad news that is apparently going to get progressively worse, and I don't want to jinx the few good things by mentioning them to excess -- so instead, here's a couple of Friday Fives.

When you were a child, what was your favorite game to play?
I enjoyed Aggravation. I liked marbles and dice anyway, as play things, so the Aggravation was manna from Heaven.

What is your favorite game to play right now?
I don't play board games any more because John can't sit down and play for long stretches of time unless it's at the big table that's buried beyond reclamation. However, I do remember enjoying Pente as recently as 1991, and I got pretty good at Risk about twenty years ago, too. And I will always, ALWAYS kick your ass at Trivial Pursuit.

Can you share a good story about playing with others or yourself?
Setting up my Pente mat on a table in the main lobby of the Tacoma Sheraton during a Norwescon was kind of fun. Especially when ALL of the stone sets were used. I think at one time we had five players going at once, which changes the strategies of the game in ways I never thought possible.

What do you do for fun now?
You mean board games? I haven't done that in awhile. However, I think in about ten days, I'll be gaming a whole bunch.

If you were able to invent a game, what would you call it?
I'd call it Wait, I'm Not Done Yet, and it would be a sort of story game along the lines of 'choose your own adventure' in which you try and guess how a story is going to end.

Okay, and one more:

What about you makes you unique?
I have the ability to look extremely busy without actually accomplishing anything, and I can generate a pile of crumbs from anything I eat.

What aspect of your physical appearance do you think makes you stick out from the crowd?
I don't know. I'll let the crowd provide the answer.

What do you always have with you while out in public? (for example, earrings, purse, wallet, watch, etc.)
I always carry a small bottle of saline (allergies; this stuff goes in my eyes or up my nose) and a small roll of medical tape.

Is there anything about your body that you think isn't normal?
The fact that I have had no large intestine for twenty-three years is probably outside the realm of normal.

What are you complimented on (looks, smarts, anything) the most? Why do you think that's the case?
Well, my readers seem to like my writing, and people who see me in 3D seem to notice my eyes.

Now I'm all caught up.

Have a good Monday.
