It Has A Long "I"

Wednesday, Sept. 06, 2006 - 1:10 a.m.

So my friend Dan had in fact been by twice, and left a different note each time.

The first note was apparently left on late Saturday afternoon. We left the apartment once, but not through the front gate, where the note was lodged.

We sort of prefer to leave the premises through the garage when we are taking the car.

The second note was apparently left for us on Sunday, and was crammed into the mailbox -- which we had no reason to open and inspect until TUESDAY.

And nary a phone call. He had a cell phone with him, but nope, couldn't quite figure the bugger out. Forgot my cell number. Gosh, don't write it on a piece of tape and tape it to the phone or anything mate. So clever and simple you might hurt yourself. :-P

I have a feeling Dan comes from a family that used to put tape over the empty outlets so the electricity wouldn't escape.

Steve Irwin's final moments are apparently captured on video. Apparently he'd been expecting that moment to be immortalized in just that fashion, and had said it would have been okay to show it to other people if it would keep them from making mistakes. He said all animals that can kill or injure humans were like loaded guns, and should be treated accordingly.

Guess we'll file that one under Be Careful What You Wish For.

---

I finally figured out why I'm so upset about the death of Stever Irwin.

He was so good with the animals that we forgot how dangerous it was.

Damn. ... damn.

I have only felt like this two other times in my life. Once for Jim Henson, and once for Diana, Princess of Wales.

We weren't FINISHED with them yet.

---

Speaking of whom, last night I heard George Noory pronounce the word 'Crikey' so that it rhymed with sticky.

How embarrassing that people are paid to sit in a chair and be on the airwaves and still have utterly no idea how to read for context.

---

Saw a clip on the Tonight Show, where Jay Leno is remembering his friend... and coincidentally, Russell Crowe is also a guest that night and has stayed around for the animal segment.

Steve Irwin (Lugging a great big friendly beaver out and plopping it onto Jay's desk): Jay, this is just about my FAVORITE American animal! I just LOVE the beaver!

Russell Crowe: I'm pretty fond of beaver, myself.

And so it goes.

---

Okay, there we go. Have a Wednesday.
