News Priorities

Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007 - 1:14 a.m.

John is home sick again for one more day, poor dear.

---

As I have mentioned here, I've got my own CD out now, and I've also been doing some work for Bob Chance, learning his music as I go.

When I worked with him last week, and needed to transcribe something he was teaching me, I asked him if he had any paper that specifically had the five-bar music staff on it, and he said no, he did not.

And that's when I found out he rarely bothered to transcribe any of the work he'd actually done over the years.

I recall a long time ago, paying an inordinately yicky amount of money for a notepad of specially lined paper on which music could be written.

But now, over here on this site, you can download PDF files of those same musical manuscript papers for free.

Thank you, AntonJazz; I really appreciate it.

I'm very alarmed and disheartened at the following event.

On Monday evening, a gunman killed five people at a mall in Salt Lake City before being killed by police. This happened at around dinnertime and the siege lasted for a number of minutes. When I first heard the bulletin on the radio, I switched over to the network news feeds expecting to see some sort of coverage.

CNN and MSNBC and FOX were my news sources. .. and I surfed from one to another and another -- all three were running documentaries on Anna Nicole Smith.

Not a sign of the mall shooting on ANY of the news networks. Not even a crawl.

And that's what has alarmed me.

Dear news networks: Anna Nicole Smith is gone. No documentary in the universe will bring her back. She idolized Marilyn Monroe, and she missed her son Daniel with all her heart.

It's time to let the dead bury the dead.

And get your news priorities straight, please.

Okay, that's it. Have a good Tuesday.
