Haircut 400

Wednesday, Apr. 25, 2007 - 12:00 a.m.

I was chatting for a bit last night with Bob Lai, and the subject of John Edwards' $400.00 haircut commentary came up.

Me: I gave the hubby a pretty good haircut on Sunday night.

Bob: Did you charge him four hundred dollars? ...(g)

Me: No... the cut was free. But he does always offer me a great big tip. ;-)

(moderate pause)

Bob: I guess I walked right into that one.

Me: Well, yes you did.

And so on and so forth. Luckily the rest of the chat didn't degenerate.

Sometimes it has, but this one just skipped across the surface. :-)

Yesterday, the heads of our military got pantsed but good by the family of Pat Tillman and by Jessica Lynch.

''I am still confused as to why they chose to lie and tried to make me a legend when the real heroics of my fellow solders that day were, in fact, legendary,'' said Ms. Lynch.

Accounts from officials of Ms. Lynch's bravery held the nation in thrall in the early stages of the Iraq invasion in 2003 after her maintenance convoy went astray near Nasiriya and she was taken prisoner. After her rescue, which was made into a television movie, she disputed those who said she fought off Iraqi soldiers until she was captured. She never fired a shot, she reiterated today.

The ''story of the little girl Rambo from the hills who went down fighting'' was untrue, she said.

Kevin Tillman was scathing in his assessment of how his brother Pat's death in Afghanistan in 2004, which was later determined to be a result of friendly fire, was initially portrayed by the military as an act of heroism in the face of enemy fire.

''A terrible tragedy that might have further undermined support for the war in Iraq was transformed into an inspirational message that served instead to support the nation's foreign policy wars in Iraq and Afghanistan,'' he said.

Representative Henry Waxman, the California Democrat who is chairman the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, promised to carry his quest for answers in the case, which drew the lion's share of questions from lawmakers, to the highest levels of the Bush administration.

''We don't know what the secretary of defense knew,'' said Mr. Waxman, who has made himself a thorn in the administration's side since Democrats took over the majority in January. ''We don't know what the White House knew. These are questions this committee seeks answers to.''

I'm very sad that real people, who made real sacrifices, were taken advantage of, and propagandized to increase recruitment.

Our government has no right to do that to anybody, and yet that seems to be what happened.

Sheryl Crow has rebutted the reaction to her toilet paper admonition by saying that she's just glad that her joke got us talking about global warming.

Well, Sheryl, hate to break it to you, but mostly it got us talking about what a ridiculously unfunny twit you are.

Dining sleeve? For corn's sake. I guess you never heard of CLOTH NAPKINS.

I think that's it. Have a good Wednesday, or at the very least, don't have a day like this.
