Bravery / Fire Monday, Apr. 30, 2007 - 4:02 a.m. What a brave thing to do. Mike Penner, one of the go-to sportswriters of the Los Angeles Times, has now written a column in which he reveals that he is transsexual and that after he gets back from vacation, his byline will read 'Christine Daniels'. He's 49, been at this job for quite some time now, and the reactions of his co workers have ranged from indifference to humor. What a huge undertaking at this time in life. And, as John observed, thanks to none other than Don Imus, I think she will be protected in any media that dares to mention her in a negative light. Because you see, my friends, the False Morality Hounds have been loosed -- and the next radio personality who opens their cake-hole and says something derogatory about the transgender community is going to get their ass kicked. --- In other news, yes, we now have a road problem of gargantuan proportions to deal with. Governor Schwarzenbooger has declared that today is a free public transit day. He also declared a state of emergency in Alameda County, so state resources can be used to repair the roads instead of the work succumbing to the bidding process and getting tied up for months. Wow, he's a Republican after all! --- John is due to go on public transit this afternoon during the evening commute. I was telling this to Cutie Latina and she said for him to bring provisions. A book, some water, and a snack were her recommendations. I am going to add a pup tent and flares to that list. --- Now, do you all understand what happened and where the trouble is? The San Francisco Bay Area has several large bridges. The most famous one, the Golden Gate Bridge, is located at the very top of the city, and connects San Francisco to Marin county. We also have a major east-west bridge that connects San Francisco to Oakland. That's the Bay Bridge. When you travel from San Francisco to Oakland, there are three main forks of roadways leading off the Bay Bridge into Oakland and the East Bay. You can still turn left, which will take you north. You can also still turn right, which will take you south. But that middle corridor? The one that leads to the rest of the eastern portion of the Bay Area? That's where the blockage is. A tanker truck overturned and caught fire, and the heat re-softened the asphalt, which made it fall apart. So. Yikes. The morning commute today should be SO much fun. --- I guess that's it. Have a good Monday, and send John good vibes! ---
