Homecoming Fog

Monday, Jul. 16, 2007 - 1:23 a.m.

The drive back to San Francisco was stunning; we took highway 99 to I-5 to 80, passing just north west of the heart of Sacramento. Most of the marshy undeveloped land around that area has been overrun by suburbs.

I'm hoping the residents there are enjoying their lovely summer mosquitoes.

---

The drive up, though, has also been fascinating.

There's a frontage road that we take that goes through a rural area called Zamora.

It's slightly hilly and mostly grazing pasture -- and there are times when, aside from the cow fence, there's no sign of civilization, and you're all by yourself. It's a stark drive, but a pretty one nevertheless.

---

When you get back on flat road, you keep driving east until you come to the road that takes you north.

The Sutter Buttes come into view, though still distant.

I got a good picture of them, though, as we headed to the reunion:

---

There are no pictures of my classmates; my indoor photography skills are not what I wish them to be, and the heat was literally sapping my strength to the point where my hands would palsy every time I tried to steady the camera. I mean, *I* can see who they are, but unless I had a tabletop or a tripod at my disposal, nothing turned out the way I wanted it to.

Nuts.

However, nobody asked *me* to stop and stand for a picture, so, karmically, that all worked out just fine.

Neener!

---

As always, it was good to get back home to where the fog is!...

July in San Francisco is unlike just about anywhere else on the planet.

The phrase "Grab your coat! We're going to the beach!" is a perfectly sensible thing to say.

---

So there you have it. Nice drive, excellent reunion, and homecoming fog.

Take care, and see you tomorrow!
