Pete And Re-Pete / RIP Tammy Faye

Sunday, Jul. 22, 2007 - 1:57 a.m.

There was some confusion on Friday evening as to the health of the former governor of California, Pete Wilson.

The current Governor's secretary, Sean Walsh, who apparently hadn't seen any of the newsfeeds in the waning hours of Friday night, said he had no idea how the rumor began.

Well, Nice to know our Gov is surrounding himself with people who have NO CLUE! I'm completely disgusted at any and all public officials who issue public statements without doing a motherfucking MINUTE of research.

And it's pretty obvious that the San Diego online service that presented the aformentioned story didn't do any homework, either.

Because you see, my friends, we DID lose a Pete Wilson on Friday night, and a damned fine one at that.

What's more, it's all over the news:

Pete Wilson, the passionate veteran Bay Area TV news anchor, has died. Wilson, 62, suffered a massive heart attack following hip replacement surgery on Thursday at Stanford Medical Center. Doctors battled to save him on Friday, but he was removed from life support and succumbed at 9:20 p.m. Friday.

A fixture on the local evening news, Wilson spent 12 years anchoring the KRON-TV newscast before joining ABC7 five and a half years ago. He also hosted a popular talk radio show on KGO in the afternoon.

Wilson won six local Emmys and shared two Peabody Awards, including one for coverage of the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989. Wilson anchored his last show on Wednesday, and told friends he was eager to get the surgery over so he could get back out on the golf course.

Wilson is survived by his wife, Sandra, and son, Brendan. The family asks that instead of flowers, well-wishers make a contribution to the charity of their choice in Wilson's name.

The news anchor and the ex gov have been getting blamed for each other's antics for many moons now, which is something I think the ex gov's staff and associates should have had a grasp of and done a little research about before any of them opened their ignorant fat flopping mouths.

I'm repulsed at the idea of any of our tax dollars going to salaried government employees who are so completely unaware of what's happening in the very state they live in.

Oh, wait, I forgot. The state begins and ends at the borders of SACRAMENTO COUNTY.

---

And the other passing is, of course, Tammy Faye Messner.

I think she was one of the few Christians I knew of who actually dared to be Christian.

My usual sendoff applies: May she sleep in peace and wake in wonderment.

---

That's it. Have a good Sunday.
