Beckham Got Bent Saturday, Sept. 01, 2007 - 3:17 a.m. It's the first day of September already. The year has been whooshing by like a greased pig on roller skates. --- The Bay Bridge is now closed until early Tuesday morning, so a retrofit can be done. I just love how the department of transportation treated us like a bunch of idiots who won't be able to parse not using the bridge. We had blinking signs here for two months prior to this closure. We managed back in 1989, with no advance notice. And the bridge was closed for weeks, not days. --- NBC -- you remember them, they cancelled Star Trek -- still has its head up its ass. ITunes has discontinued its relationship with the network. They've decided they want to sell their programs through iTunes for five dollars an episode instead of two. God, what a bunch of out of touch employees that network has. --- My body clock is all turned around; I sat up and watched memorial coverage for Diana. Nice to see she is still so lovingly remembered. --- Larry Craig, the Republican senator from Idaho, is expected to announce his resignation later this morning. This is okay with me, for the following reason: If he is telling the truth about being straight, and about being forced to sign a confession to avoid publicity -- then he's too much of a pussy to be in a leadership position. What he SHOULD have done when threatened with adverse publicity is to laugh it off, point a finger at the officer who arrested him, and say 'Fuck you, you lying sack; I will see you in court', and then told the entire western world what happened to him. Gee. Kind of like what I did with my predator. But he didn't. He just wanted it to go away. Wrong answer. --- David Beckham's right knee caved. He's probably out for the rest of the season. Let's see. He was paid a quarter of a billion dollars to move to this continent and this soccer division. He's been in what, three games? Four games?... If anybody can find the stats to show how much time he's actually been on the field, we can then determine cost per minute. It will probably be more than most of you make in a year. He could return to play, though, if his wife would be willing to sacrifice one of her bolt-ons as a replacement kneecap. --- All right, that's it. Have a good Saturday! ---
