Voices Known & Unknown Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007 - 12:00 a.m. Hey, when I'm down here at Old Buddy Dave's, I can log on and see things on YouTube in less than a minute versus about a half hour on my land line. Did I ever tell you who I think is the greatest voice in pop music today? No, not Tom Chaplin. His name is Rob De Nijs, and he's Dutch. I've been a fan of his for about a decade now, and I fervently wish the man would do a project in English so more people could enjoy what he sounds like. For those of you who can use YouTube, here he is. For reasons I don't fathom, some of the videos do not play on my system, but most do. If you want a real treat, cycle on down to the one in black and white that's called "Stil Verdreit" and listen for a familiar melody. --- One of my other admired singing artists is very ill and needs a lung transplant. I got a bad feelin' about this. Robert Goulet has a serious case of pulmonary fibrosis, and is on a ventilator. He will be 74 next month, and the doctors are now deciding whether or not to allow him to receive a lung transplant. I hope they do better homework than they did with Mickey Mantle. --- Yesterday afternoon, my husband John went into a Kinko's to see about getting his fanzine copied, and they looked at the content and turned him down. They said it was full of too many copyrighted images. John tried to explain that he'd only used images as part of reviews (such as single panels or frames from pages of comic books, or the cover of a CD, etc), and had included full copyright and credits, which is covered under Fair Use, but the manager on duty freaked out and wouldn't allow the project to proceed without written consent of the creators. Yeah right. Jack Kirby died some thirteen years ago, and Ringo & Sir Paul probably won't write back, either. John has decided that Kinko's doesn't deserve any more of his business for any reason, and I'm going to agree here. --- That's it for now. New South Park tonight! Have a good Wednesday. ---
