Primaries & Polar Bears

Wednesday, Jan. 09, 2008 - 9:22 a.m.

Today is January 9th, which happens to ironically be the birthday of Richard Nixon and Joan Baez.

That's about as balanced as it gets, I reckon.

I am hearing smatters here and there in the blogosphere already about whether or not people are going to vote at all.

For those of my friends who have already decided not to vote? Or for those who just have excuse after excuse for not registering? The heck with ya. If I find out that you aren't voting in this year's primaries or presidential election?

I will stop speaking to you.

Because, you see, if YOU have the right to make drastic political decisions, then so do I.

Too many people have died worldwide so that the right to vote in a representative election could be introduced or preserved, and when you don't exercise that right, you're being disrespectful to the people who died.

And if you're absolutely complacent about letting other people make decisions for you, then I'd rather associate with friends who take a little more responsibility for their existence on this planet.

In other news, the weather is still whack.

I don't remember the last time I saw actual sunshine.

But admittedly that's my own fault for sleeping until three thirty pm on the weekend.

---

Okay, so remember the Berlin zookeepers who hand reared a polar bear cub after its mother rejected it? The animal rights activists beat their chests and wailed in sorrow about how poor little Knut had become too dependent on humans and how the un-natural life would be bad for it and yadda yadda piss moan

Fine, said the zoo officials. We won't interfere anymore with such things. We have learned our lesson and will not interfere with the mother and baby until they waddle out into the public eye on their own.

As a result of this change in policy, a zoo in Nuremburg left another polar bear mother alone after it had twins a few days ago -- and mother bear has made the twins into a snack, which is actually what polar bears do when their young are too sickly when they are born.

Can't win for losing.

All right, there you go. Have a good Wednesday.
