Sacred Treasures & Skating

Monday, Mar. 24, 2008 - 12:04 a.m.

Last night I got a pleasant Easter surprise on the radio.

John begged to differ.

Sunday evenings, I try and listen to a syndicated New Age music program called 'Music From The Hearts Of Space.' It's been around for twenty-five years. And in honor of its twenty-fifth anniversary, the show is playing twenty-five Sundays of vintage programs. This last night, Easter Sunday night, I was treated to one of the shows I'd taped off the air and eventually shredded my tape from playing it every night to help me sleep -- the show was called 'Sacred Treasures', which consisted of Russian choral music.

As soon as I tuned this in, John quietly got up from the fanzine work he was doing, and excused himself to the bedroom with the phrase, "This sounds too familiar to me." And I looked at my Number One Lapsed Catholic and said "But it's not Latin, it's Russian."

Whereupon he fixed me with a look and said "It sounds the same to me. Scuse me," and off he went.

I sat there and listened to the rest of it, and then went to bed.

---

Nothing terribly Eastery went on in the McLaughlin household; I ate some Reese's eggs, and John and I watched "Wallace & Gromit in the Legend of the Were-Rabbit", because it's wall-to-wall bunnies, otherwise, we took it easy.

---

I hope that all of you who observe it had a wonderful holiday.

---

Meanwhile, I have no idea what's really going on in the rest of the world; John and I watched essentially wall-to-wall figure skating and were pleased with the results of this years' World Championships. I don't think I saw more than about ten minutes of news, and that was from the BBC, or from Scola, whose eastern European newscasts have incredibly quirky commercials.

---

That's it. Have a good Monday.
