Common Sense Prevails

Friday, May. 16, 2008 - 12:40 a.m.

You know, I think we're in for a few more trips around the legal mulberry bush before the final word takes place on this, but I'm awfully glad to see the following ruling:

In contrast to earlier times, our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation, and, more generally, that an individual's sexual orientation like a person's race or gender does not constitute a legitimate basis upon which to deny or withhold legal rights.

I usually have a problem with any court that overturns something that people have voted for, but in this case, the item that was voted for happened to have been in violation of basic constitutional rights, so it was fair game.

As of this writing, the city is recuperating from a semi-impromptu and really really large party over in the Castro.

Just to make sure, all you primarily heterosexually oriented married people go look in the mirror.

See any difference?... No?....

Yeah, I didn't either. Heh.

---

It's still hot here. As of this writing, it's shortly after midnight, and the outside temperature is 78 degrees.

John's trying to sleep with the door open, which is pert nigh impossible for him to do, as he sleeps best in pitch dark

---

Having a lot of fun with the new computer and learning things from the ground up.

I've already sent its previous owner one email entitled "Never Mind, I Figured It Out."

Nick The Mac Guy used to handle the administrative stuff and set the passwords and all of the assorted fiddlyboos like that, so it's been a learning experience starting completely from scratch for only the second time in my life with an OSX machine.

---

All right, that's it.

Have a good Friday.
