Sporting Ladies Saturday, Jul. 05, 2008 - 12:06 a.m. I watched the footage of some of the Olympic trials that NBC was broadcasting last night, and I saw Dara Torres win the women's 100 meter freestyle swimming event. Yes, that's right, Dara Torres, the sports commentator, who has retired twice and come back twice. She's forty-one. She beat Natalie Coughlin in that particular race. And she's now on the 2008 Olympic team. --- On the other end of the spectrum, I watched sixteen year old Jordan Hasay, with her forty pounds of wavy blonde Jan Brady hair flying behind her in a ponytail, set a high school record for the women's 1500 meter run. Excellent. --- I'm looking very forward to the Olympics. Hopefully, John won't mind too badly about the quadrennial sports-widow totality that is going to occur. --- In other sports news, Venus and Serena Williams will play one another for the Ladies championship at Wimbledon today. Watch the match with the talent of each sister in mind: Serena has the better serve of the two, but Venus has better overall strategy and strength. --- I hope everybody had a nice Fourth; John and I sheltered in place. Have a good Saturday. ---
