Sporting Ladies

I watched the footage of some of the Olympic trials that NBC was broadcasting last night, and I saw Dara Torres win the women's 100 meter freestyle swimming event.

Yes, that's right, Dara Torres, the sports commentator, who has retired twice and come back twice.

She's forty-one. She beat Natalie Coughlin in that particular race.

And she's now on the 2008 Olympic team.

On the other end of the spectrum, I watched sixteen year old Jordan Hasay, with her forty pounds of wavy blonde Jan Brady hair flying behind her in a ponytail, set a high school record for the women's 1500 meter run.

Excellent.

I'm looking very forward to the Olympics.

Hopefully, John won't mind too badly about the quadrennial sports-widow totality that is going to occur.

In other sports news, Venus and Serena Williams will play one another for the Ladies championship at Wimbledon today. Watch the match with the talent of each sister in mind: Serena has the better serve of the two, but Venus has better overall strategy and strength.
