Whaddya Know & Friday Five Friday, Nov. 14, 2008 - 12:12 a.m. Whaddya know? No, seriously -- how much news did you pay attention to this past week, and whaddya know? Good gravy, I am SUCH a news geek. I got all of them. --- I am seeing footage of the Montecito fire, and hoping there are no deaths. There was another fire in the same area thirty years ago. So, the footage *I'm* seeing shows homes surrounded by bushes and trees that look to be about thirty years old. What this implies is that when people there rebuilt what burned -- despite warnings and the history of the fire and the experience of losing belongings in the fire itself -- they replanted their foliage without considering that anything like this could happen again. Sigh. --- Leaks about Hillary Clinton being Secretary of State in the Obama Administration? No. But not because she's Hillary Clinton -- because she's a woman. It was, is, and will be a mistake to put a woman in that position as long as we are refusing to drill for oil here and continuing to be forced to do business with predominantly Muslim countries just so we can have their oil. Now, if she were to be placed on the Supreme Court, that might work. She'd be in a respected and highly observed position of considerable power, all of the 5-4 decisions regarding personal liberties would switch back to 6-3, and she could keep the job for as many years as she wanted. --- Friday Five: What troubles you? The link is here. --- All right, there ya go. Have a nice Friday ---
