Phone & Packing

Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008 - 12:19 a.m.

The new phone still doesn't want to let me onto the broadband, so I'm looking for WiFi signal boosters now.

I also want to find some sooper seekrit way to make this laptop do the Bluetooth Hoopty again, but I'm starting to think that's not in the cards.

That's okay, though.

We had a little scare yesterday: John's phone stopped working. It turned out to be programmed improperly, and the fellow at the store was able to jumpstart it again.

We also found some nice goodies at the import store, which was in the same shopping complex.

News: The Marathon candy bar is alive and well and disguised as a Cadbury Curly Wurly.

---

I'm finally starting my packing to head to Anaheim on Thursday.

The past six months of using our futon as a staging area have caught up with me at last.

There are several layers of packing strata on the futon, and I am astonished at what I've been finding. I no longer have an underwear shortage, and I'm not going crazy; I *do* have four bras after all.

I might be packed by Wednesday evening with the grace of the powers that be and Uncle Fester's dynamite.

---

The story yesterday about the suicide survivor hitting the car windshield? Allegedly it is true.

Myself, please forgive me for being a cynical old broad here, but I'm still not buying it.

If this really really did happen the way, then hooray, I'm glad the guy survived, but this still smells like people trying to sell a story or something to get some money to compensate for their non-insurance-covered run of bad luck.

My husband is in the insurance industry, and I'll bet you dimes to donuts he's going to observe that there's great big holes here about whether or not insurance of any kind from any direction should have covered what happened to the car, and whether or not the couple in question really haven't gotten hold of a police report.

Gonna wait and see what the hubbins says.

UPDATE: Diaryland thinks John is a spammer because of some sort of post duplication trigger originating from his workplace, so here's his comment here in the body of the post:

As for whether this particular type of damage to the car would be covered, it depends ENTIRELY on HOW MUCH and WHAT TYPE of coverage the car owner purchased. Not everyone can afford to buy "comprehensive" coverage that includes "owned auto property damage" -- so some people are covered for physical damage to their car by parties known or unknown (with varying deductibles, depending on their budget), and some people aren't, 'cause they can't afford it.

Regarding the accident itself, I agree with Bob. There are just too many missing puzzle pieces and an overabundance of unbelievable coincidences. Were I an insurance investigator I'd be going after this couple with x-ray glasses!

Thanks for indulging me, readers. :)

Later this morning, I'll make a final packing list, and I'll also go ahead and treat my hair to one of those nice hot oil treatment tubes from the package I found buried on the slope of Mt. Futon.

Wish me luck!

And I am going to mention an exception to the spending rule today; go ahead and go to the Balboa Theatre and attend tonight's double feature -- it's a charity event for Bob Wilkins.

---

That's it for now. Have a good Wednesday.
