Disconnect

Sunday, Mar. 22, 2009 - 12:30 a.m.

Alan provided a set list last night and the good news is that I can probably sing backup on over half of them.

It was amazing to see his list of songs and find several that we'd done back in that other band in 1983.

When I visited on the 7th, he played a few bars of the Men At Work song "Overkill" which was one that we'd done way back a yonder, and I was able to remember the harmony.

---

Last night, John went and saw Petula Clark at the Castro Theatre with his friend Mike.

He came home with a new appreciation of her and her music, especially because she's still doing an excellent show at the age of seventy-six.

Since he says he's not even sure he's still going to be continent at that age, he was duly impressed.

---

The rain hit about ten minutes after John got home, and it's grate beg old FAT rain.

I'm glad he got back in time to avoid it.

---

So there was this entire disconnect that took place at John's work.

John is disabled. He has osteoarthritis in his back and hips. He drives with a blue card.

The work guys finally showed up to install his ergonomic workstation.

Guess what they had him do before they began work?

They had him clean out his cubicle.

As in, all of it. As in, crawling his sore ass around on the floor and unplugging shit.

Excuse me, is anybody at all paying attention here and pointing out the absudity of this protocol? Why was my disabled husband required to do any cubicle disassembly whatsoever, much less ALL of it?

I'm gonna wait to see a completed picture from work of John's new workstation and then I'm going to write an email to the ADA to have them talk to Marsh about how to handle workstation refittings from now on.

The mind boggles.

---

Finally, goodbye to UK reality star Jade Goody, who died early today her local time of cervical cancer at the age of 27. The publicity surrounding her diagnosis and fight has hopefully saved lives, and I'm grateful to Jade for having been so public about her struggle.

---

Okay, that's it. Have a good Sunday.
