A Tiny Little List Monday, May. 18, 2009 - 12:38 a.m. Here's a tiny little list of what has been accomplished here at home since yesterday: John and I finished watching The Englishman's Boy. Nicholas Cambell was brilliant in the title role and Bob Hoskins stole every scene he was in, especially his last one. Go to Amazon Canada and see if you can find the DVD. The weird place around my recliner has been excavated. There were rediscoveries of instruction manuals for iDVD and Garage Band 2. There was also an expulsion of about a year and a half worth of periodicals that had been thumbed through once and set aside. This ended up being equivalent to around twenty pounds of stuff finding its way to the trash. I also found the MIDI / USB keyboard patch cord that I *knew* I'd purchased. So it turns out that I'm not crazy. Just lazy. I practiced forty-five minutes on the bass. As soon as I post, I'll probably go and practice some more. The way I've been practicing is to put iTunes on random, and try and play along with whatever song comes up. I am certainly still missing more notes than I'm hitting, but still, something feels very nice about this instrument, and it's definitely an experience I am enjoying. I have also discovered an online resource for help with techique and instruction, at http://www.studybass.com. The Futon Of Terror is visible again. I have used it for a staging area when packing for the last two years or so, and I finally tackled all of the odds and ends that ended up living there. Frankly, it's a miracle. We have a refrigerator in our apartment that's about my age. We defrosted it this weekend. And the food and milk survived. My one borderline regret is that I did not make it to band practice Sunday. Yesterday was Bay To Breakers, when the taxpaying citizens of this city who simply want to quietly exist here and make their way about town are metaphorically screwed over without a second thought. But it's the first practice I've missed, and hopefully it's the only one I'll miss. --- Nothing else to report. I haven't taken pictures of the new bass yet, but when I do, obviously you'll be the first ones to know. That's it. Have a good Monday. ---
