Eight Years Hence

Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 - 12:45 a.m.

Over on Facebook, Alan asked us for recollections of this day in 2001.

I was just about to go to bed after being up all night. I made one more round through the news channels and found Aaron Brown on CNN with the first burning tower behind him.

I went into the bedroom and woke John and said "Hey, which tower are the Marsh offices in?" And he told me, and I said "Shit. A plane hit one of them." and went back into the living room.

John groggled out of bed and began watching the coverage and trying to call work.

After the second plane hit, the day became surreal. Word came down that Marsh offices would be closed until Thursday.

When John went back to work, he said the comfort food disappeared out of the vending machines.

Over the course of the next week, I baked about four hundred chocolate chip cookies, and made toothpick flags, both of which John took to the office, and both of which disappeared the minute they were set out.

As I am writing this, John is telling me that some of the little flags had been displayed up until the end of last year when the office was relocated.

We seem to have found a temporary solution to the drummer issue.

In addition to playing lead guitar, Todd also plays drums. So I figured asking him for a sit in on the 20th couldn't hurt.

Stunningly, this impossibly nice fellow said yes!

So if there are no followups from the folks who inquired?

We're going to have Todd be the guest drummer for the 20th so the guy trying out for lead will have a full band at his disposal.

Yay.

Nothing else to report. Have a good Friday.

And don't have a moment of silence. Have a moment of yelling FUCK YOU or GOD BLESS AMERICA, instead.
