Home In An Hour Monday, Jun. 14, 2010 - 12:51 a.m. First -- Happy Flag Day. --- Yesterday instead of Saturday, I went to Vacaville to work with Alan. Things went well; I helped him lay a scratch track for a new song. The working title is "Home In An Hour". His goal is that whenever get together outside of band work to do solo work, we should be doing our very best to lay a scratch track for a new song. That's laudable. Impossible, but laudable. And actually -- worth a try. --- A couple of days before World Cup coverage began, there was a human interest story on Deutsche Welle that featured the fans who were planning to attend, and all of them carrying official noisemakers. Long plastic trumpets, called vuvuzelas, all of which can play exactly or nearly exactly a perfect B flat. This might be entertaining in a stadium with fifty thousand of your closest friends, but to me, it sounds like a swarm of bees, just about to swoop down and sting everybody. So I've been watching coverage en espanol, which takes my mind off the bees, or I watch it with the sound off. And despite the annoying sound, I've been enjoying the broadcasts. There's some talk of banning them due to the noise levels, but we'll wait and see. --- This is the week I'll be taking a couple of practice runs to City Hall on the bus; my jury service will be a week from now. --- All right, that's it. Have a good Monday. ---
