Coping Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010 - 12:44 a.m. First, thanks to everybody here and in email, and over on Facebook who has sent condolences. They are all welcomed and very much appreciated. --- John goes back to work today. Arrangements are now being made for his father. I'll write at length about his life when I do some more research and track down some images, but the one thing that's currently annoying me more than anything is the irony of this whole thing. Joe Espinosa made most of his living as a firefighter -- a person who saved lives. But when it came to saving his own? He just couldn't. --- So now we cope. Like I said, John's headed back to work today. But since we got the news, he's been stumbling over it like a throw rug with a wrinkle in it. He'll be doing something and then he'll turn to me and say "Holy shit! My dad's dead!" And he's had a little more brandy than usual, but It's Allowed. And as for me? As awful as this has been, I've got a big bag full of coping strategies labeled Dad Died Suddenly, so I'm doing okay. So. Coping. --- One of the things that helps me to deal with awfulness is humor. Big D sent me three things yesterday that made me laugh, and I am grateful. First, here's something about the ups and downs of working at home. And here's a picture of the Kung Fu Panda movie poster in an appropriate setting. Finally -- I have no idea what you're talking about, so here's a GIF of an owl playing Ultimate Frisbee. --- That's it. Have a good Thursday. ---
