Double Duty

Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 - 2:40 a.m.

A new scale arrived here the other day. It's digital and there's an option of measuring in pounds or kilograms.

I'm allowed 7 kilograms total as my carryon, and it all has to fit into something that's the same or less than 19x13x9 inches in area. I own a couple of carryon options that meet the measurement requirements, so we will see what works.

I won't be putting ANY electronics of any kind into my checked luggage, because LAX has the very highest rate of theft, and that's where I'll be flying from when I go to Perth, by way of Sydney.

If the V Australia and Virgin Blue are really as militant about luggage weights and carryon sizes as their websites are leading me to believe, I'm going to personally weigh every single damned thing that's going with me into the cabin of the plane, and hope for the best.

---

If push comes to shove, my still pictures camera can take video better than my video camera can take still pictures, so that kind of double duty is all right.

The thing I don't know is whether or not I can use my mostly empty and available space on my iPod as an auxiliary hard drive, on which I would store my unprocessed video and picture files.

I'll have to research that.

---

In other news -- Hooray! John survived another one of my haircuts.

Life is good.

---

That's it. Have a good day and I'll see you next time!
