Hillary's & AQWA

Sunday, May. 22, 2011 - 7:24 p.m.

On the last day of April, Paul and I went down to Hillary's Boat Harbour. It's kind of like Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk; it's a boat cove that's been deveolped into an amusement and shopping center. The weather was wonderful, and the crowds were bearable.

We ate lunch at an Australia's Finest Burger restaurant, and took pictures of each other:

For dessert, Paul dug into the bag of goodies he had purchased at the British sweet shop there:

After lunch, we headed over to the Aquarium of Western Australia:

While we were there, we walked through a tunnel that was surrounded by water and fish; I don't think I have ever seen the underside of a shark or a ray before.

There was also a little tank with sea dragons in it; they looked like the arugula I had just picked off of my hamburger earlier:

At the end of the inside tour, there's a walkway and an exit to a petting pool full of user friendly sea life:

Paul stuck both hands into the water and made friends with a ray thing and a couple of fishy things and I think maybe a squiddy thing, too.

Finally, we'd had our fill of the attractions, and made our way through the gift shop.

Paul purchased a little magnet for me that says "Perth: The World's Most Isolated City", and it lives on my fridge.

We took a cab back to Perth -- about twenty minutes away -- and our driver had just come back from a vacation in the United States, where he'd rented a motorcycle and driven up and down the western section of the country. His favorite city had been Las Vegas, but he had spent time with friends in San Francisco. I described my neighborhood and he mentioned a landmark that I can see from my window. Go figure!

Speaking of San Francisco -- my time in Australia was drawing to a close.

I was going to have to spend the first day of May packing my stuff.

That's it. See you next time.
