Fanime Con 2003 Sunday, Jun. 22, 2003 - 9:41 p.m. Today proved to be the best day of sales at Fanime Con. I tried something from the old days of working at the comic store -- 'Roll Your Own Discount'. The store sold bits and pieces to role-playing gamers, including many sided dice. We would play R.Y.O.D. with a twenty sided die, also known as a D-20. I mentioned this gimmick to the guy in the next booth on Saturday -- and found out he used to be a gamer, and had an extra D-20 at home that he would bring to me the next day. Sure enough, he remembered. I made a sign that said "Ask us about 'Roll Your Own Discount'" and the sales went through the roof. I discovered something really interesting: If the customer has a chance to control whether or not they save money? They'll jump at the opportunity. The odds were in my favor today; I would offer them a ten percent discount, OR an opportunity to roll. Out of thirty customers, only three opted for the ten percent. The rest rolled. And of those rest, only about a third of them did better than ten percent -- but when they did that, they bought MORE than they'd originally planned to. Anyway, it was a good day. I still have to do the books and close out the cash box for next year -- YES, we will be at Fanime Con next year; we already put a deposit down on a booth space.:) More details as they become available. I'm tired. Gonna go to bed and rest my feets. All I did today was sit, but even that becomes tiring if you don't get up and walk around. I did that once, in search of Hello Kitty stuff for a friend, but then the rest of the time I was at my table. But I still had a lot of fun. :) Nighters, all. :) ---
