FRIDAY FIVE Sept 12 / Passings Friday, Sept. 12, 2003 - 7:46 a.m. This week's Friday Five: (Questions are boldface, my answers appear beneath.) A: I still use the same first and middle name, but I hyphenate them together now. And my last name doesn't match my birth certificate, thanks to that getting married thing and all.:) If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be? A: I always thought I would have rather been named Laura, as in Laura Ingalls Wilder. But I think that's just residual intolerance for the dozens of substitute teachers I had that always looked at my name -- Brin -- and without fail, read it out loud as 'Brian'. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?) A: My mother named me, but I don't know why she chose such an unusual first name for a girl. I can't ask her, either, because she passed away in 1995. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why? A: I really can't stand the name ANDY, but I'll let you figure that one out yourselves.:) Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com accurate? How or how isn't it? A: I have no idea; I didn't go monkey with the website.
--- Okay. Now, if you wanna play Friday Five, go here. --- Wow. Passings. Two in one day. I hate days like this. I was going to start writing about my trip, but instead, I'll write about Johnny Cash, and about John Ritter. Johnny Cash was an artist whose work I have been familiar with my whole life. I feel as if a member of my family has been lost. When June died a few months ago, I thought he would go pretty soon after, but it's still such a shock to the system. And as for John Ritter? I thought his work on Three's Company was nice, and I've seen him do a lot of interesting work on television -- but he blew me away in the movie 'Sling Blade'. I -hate- it when people move from this incarnation to the next before we're finished with them. May they both sleep in peace and wake in wonderment. --- You know what? I'm not quite ready to write about the trip yet, anyway. The Bonneville Salt Flats really blew my mind. I'd never seen the actual curvature of the earth from the surface of the planet before. I feel much better knowing the scientists were right about Earth being round. :) ---
