The Ides of October

Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 - 8:00 a.m.

Well. Golly.

Last night, I watched a baseball game the likes of which I don't remember ever seeing before, not even with the San Francisco Giants.

The Chicago Cubs had a meltdown of astronomical proportions, and it all started with a call that -should- have been Fan Interference. The fan reached over the wall and caught a ball that would otherwise have landed in the outfielder's glove.

But the idiot fan is not the sole reason for the loss -- their opponents, the Florida Marlins, had an eight-run inning.

Mumble, mutter. Anyway, now it's off to Game Seven of the playoffs; so because I tend to root for the underdog, I'm going to keep hoping the Cubbies will triumph.

---

It's finally COLD here in the morning. Usually, we San Franciscans don't ever have any weather in our weather -- but it's officially 'Nipple Season' now.

---

This is an oldie, but maybe you haven't seen this -- It's a synopsis for a famous movie.

Guesses may be left in the comments section:

Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl
kills the first woman she meets and then teams up
with three complete strangers to kill again.

---

Finally, run, do not walk, to your nearest DVD outlet with decent prices, and obtain the special edition of "The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy". The program itself is beautifully reproduced -- but the -extras- are amazing.

The synopsis is, of course, "The Wizard of Oz" -- Now, try this one: A young boy whose family is slain gets involved in a plan to rescue a kidnapped princess from the fortified headquarters of an evil lord who sounds like James Earl Jones. He is aided by a mystical little fellow he meets in a desolate landscape, and uses his father's special sword to fight the evil lord (who claims at one point to be the lad's father). Hint: It's NOT Star Wars!

Figured I'd give the peanut gallery a little time before chiming in. The movie is "Conan the Barbarian". :)

What? You mean it's not "Toy Story 2"?....

Both right! :)

My first thought about Brin's question was Alice in Wonderland before I really thought about it. Hmmm...
