Simple Gifts

Thursday, Nov. 06, 2003 - 5:00 a.m.

cookie paper!I frequently receive gifts from unexpected places. I got a nice one from an old friend on Wednesday. Specifically, I had one of those simple 'Life, The Universe, And Everything' IM visits with my songwriting partner, Todd Thalimer. His month of October was at times at -least- as shitful as mine was if not more, and yet he still found so many opportunities to ask after me and make certain I was all right. So Wednesday turned out to be a very nice visit.

I can count the number of people who have never hurt me on one hand, and Todd's there.

Todd, I'll even give you the right thumb, since that's Middle C. :) It was a great visit.

I'm still in wow mode.

100 lb mark And now, let me brag about another friend of mine. Here is what Paul Schultz looks like now that he's at the five month mark after his gastric bypass.

Last night, he walked into the support meeting for the first time in many weeks and metaphorically speaking, knocked everybody kicking. I've been telling him for ages that he's beautiful -- something I found to be true before he did this -- but I guess a room full of people being duly impressed may finally be convincing him that I'm right.

He's right at the 100-lbs gone mark, and I could not be more happy for him, or more delighted to see that his decision to get the work done has made him healthier and stronger, or more honored to have been his friend.

Do me, and yourself, a favor, and write to him and tell him you saw his picture here, on Brin's site at Diaryland, and if you think he looks as stunning as I think he looks, make sure he knows it. I'm still utterly amazed by this visual record.

Paul, for what it's worth, well done.

I'm so proud of what you've managed to accomplish I can't even find the words.

Okay, maybe these. Ich liebe dich. :)

Jamie and I had a movie date last night. We watched "Down With Love".

If you have ever seen and enjoy a Doris Day - Rock Hudson movie of any kind, but especially "Pillow Talk", then run, do not walk, to the DVD store and purchase this little gem. Or at least rent it. It stars Renee Zellwegger and Ewan McGregor, and it's a beautiful and loving homage to the sex comedies of the late fifties and early sixties. (It even has a hot pink case!) I really like it.

I also had a chance to IM with JJ last night.

She had a good day on Tuesday when we met, and wants to do stuff with me some more.

So that's good. :)

How does the Universe know when to cuddle me?

It's been doing that a bunch lately.
