Resurrection & Revelation Wednesday, May. 09, 2007 - 12:00 a.m. Well, Tuesday was quite an adventure. John and I drove to Berkeley twice in the space of four hours. We left home at around twenty after nine in the morning, dropped off the laptop at the Mac store shortly after ten, we got home around eleven twenty, and got a call from them at twelve twenty five in the afternoon telling us it was repaired. We climbed back in the car, got back to Berkeley by about twenty after one, and returned home at two-thirty. The Mac store in Berkeley is just a couple of doors down from The Other Change Of Hobbit, which is a F&SF bookstore where fans gather to smof. My hard drive died. I'm now on the replacement drive. Here's the list of things they found out:
REMOVED DRIVE, ATTACHED TO SERVICE UNIT; DRIVE REPORTED AS 650GB UNFORMATTED DRIVE. FAILED DRIVE, NOT RECOVERABLE. INSTALLED 80GB DRIVE; FORMATTED NEW DRIVE AS SINGLE HFS+ VOLUME OPTICAL DRIVE WORKS OK, BLANK CD BRINGS UP TOAST SOFTWARE IN SERVICE SYSTEM NO SYSTEM INSTALL REQUESTED OR PERFORMED. NOTE: OPEN FIRMWARE DISK EJECT WILL NOT WORK WITH THIS OPTICAL DRIVE; OPTICAL DRIVE WORKS OK OTHERWISE. I've discovered some things I thought were gone forever backed up on the other computer, but a significant amount of my music will have to be reworked now. However, in an interesting sort of way, I'm grateful for the challenge. I'll have spare time during a lot of the afternoons during the next clump of days. --- The Mystery Googler from the Fullerton Library is now known. Dave says it's somebody he knows. Somebody who kept Googling his name. With his ex-wife's name, and without. Anyway, it turned out to be a friend of his ex-wife whom he's met, so all is well. Or as well as can be when somebody who knows you looks in on your blog and doesn't even say hello. I must say, though, I have to say I believe the phrase "Go see if you can find what Dave is writing about me" just might have been a part of the search process, but that's nothing but a guess. --- Further to the other mentions I'm seeing online, yes, there is actually a petition to get Paris Hilton a pardon from the governor. If Arnold Schwarzenbooger even considers this, I'm never voting Republican again. --- Speaking of Paris Hilton, I actually -- please forgive me dear readers -- gave her situation some thought. She was pulled over with her parole papers in her vehicle. She says her people didn't remind her about the do's and don'ts as to her parole obligations. She says she told the truth, and that it's not her fault. Oh, and her mother is a real prize and a half, too. Anyway, here's the part I've been cogitating on. Usually her people are on top of things, and until now, she has seemed to escape certain situations with the skin of her teeth. Do you think that MAYBE, just MAYBE her people are tired of covering for her and issuing statements and keeping her out of predicaments? I wonder if they collaborated and decided enough was enough and to just leave the papers in the glove box and let the law flow toward her as it would? Was she, in fact, submarined by her own staff? It's a perfect way to achieve Tough Love without actually dirtying their hands. Hmmm. --- Anyway, I'm off again to Anaheim to see Old Buddy Dave and to finish that work for Bob Chance at LONG last. I still have a little more packing to accomplish. Have a good Wednesday! ---
