Tuesday, Apr. 13, 2004 - 5:27 a.m.

Late last night, Todd Thalimer left a comment on yesterday's post. He's home safe and sound.

Todd, I'm glad you had a great time. Thanks for sharing your time and your music and your space and your humor. I hope your Tuesday turns out okay and that you'll have a better understanding of where things stand after you talk to the expert. Fingers crossed for you. And we'll get you out here again ASAP, okay? :-)

As promised, John and I did go back to Target and get a replacement for 'School Of Rock'. Some other DVDs jumped into the basket too, including 'The Commitments', 'The Breakfast Club' and 'My Cousin Vinny'.

---

Yesterday afternoon, my replacement Grundig Yachtboy 400 shortwave radio finally arrived. I'd owned my previous one for a little over a decade, but it had been dragged off of the nightstand so many times that the speaker was finally beginning to be erratic, and something was wrong with the telescoping antenna, and the earphone jack was sporadic. So it's nice to have a new one to monkey with. I don't remember the last time I went DXing, either. I have to do it again soon, though, now that the new unit is here.

American Idol is going to be pre-empted tonight so the President can give a news conference. Why on earth is the pre-emption making headlines? American Idol is nothing more than a recycled Major Bowes Amateur Hour with the added bonus of a sarcastic Brit who is insulting people right and left.

Is there such a vacuum in the television industry that this passes for entertainment?

Sigh.

Barry Bonds tied Willie Mays for all time home runs yesterday. 660.

Okay, Mister Bonds. Good for you. Now go pee in the cup and pass the steroid test, like you bragged about doing a month ago when hell broke loose.

What? You now claim your contract doesn't require you to do that so you're not going to do that?

Well, darn.
