No Worries, Mate

Monday, Jul. 14, 2008 - 1:08 a.m.

So. Sunday. Our chores are kind of catching up with us and vice versa.

Suddenly, we get a telephone call.

It's Mark.

---

I haven't written about Mark before, because I began the diary a decade after last seeing him. Mark was our next door neighbor, here in the apartment building. We shared a wall, and after awhile we shared Macintosh software but you didn't hear it from me.

He moved to Australia, is currently settled happily in a suburb of Brisbane, (as in the Brisbane where Ian Maurice broadcasts) and last night, we had dinner with him.

There are some friends in my life who are like a needle being raised or dropped on the record, and not missing a groove, even after many years. Mark's one of them.

He bore us gifts, too. Coasters with Kangaroo Crossing signs, an Australian flag baseball cap for me, and a boomerang for John. I know how to throw one, because an Aussie by birth showed me how about twenty years ago.

It was nice to see him, and at the end of the evening, egads, he reached for the bill.

Mark still has his gorgeous broad noo yawk accent, and says it's come in handy numerous times as a conversation starter and business tool. He's stateside for a few more days, and has recuperated from jet lag.

All in all, a wonderful visit.

---

The sudden shift from slouch around leisurely completion of chores to semi casual dinner duds was a little jarring, but otherwise the evening was a success.

I haven't looked at the news or listened to the radio or nuffin, so that's why this is a lightweight post.

The only thing I'd change about the evening is the part where I forgot to take the tomato out of my sammy; they make me erpy. But it will pass.

---

Have a good Monday!
