Through Saturday Eyes

Saturday, Aug. 09, 2003 - 1:22 p.m.

Since going carb-free, I've lost five pounds in two days.

The trip to Utah is now set. I'll be there from Thursday, September 4th to Sunday the 7th, with me being placed back on the train to SF at three minutes after midnight on Monday the 8th. I got invited to go to church with Paul and his children while I'm there; I think Paul was surprised that I said yes. "I thought Pagans didn't believe in God," was his comment. "Nothing could be further from the truth," I told him. "For a Pagan, God is everywhere. There are differences in how God is perceived; I see God as female, Mother Earth; you see God as the Father, the old guy with sandals and thunderbolts. But go to church? Not a problem at all."

I do have to wonder though; if the Schultz family were ever to head west, would they be interested in attending one of -my- rituals? Hmmm.:)

As of this writing, it's Saturday afternoon all across the country; Jamie is working forty-eight hours in three days; he is in all likelihood akin to the walking dead right about now. Good luck, my friend

I ran into Scott Hysmith online last night; he's been forced to return to the east coast from his home in Seattle to complete his current work assignment, and he hates like anything to be away from his family. His father is recovering from a head injury, and Scott is worried about all of dad's marbles being back in the correct holes by the time he's discharged from the hospital. Plus he also just received word that a friend's father finally passed away from cancer. Being three thousand miles away from home right now for him is, putting it mildly, The Ultimate Bummer.

We visited via webcam for a while, but then I got to feeling guilty about the dishes in my sink, and he had to go cook dinner for himself, so we switched to voice. I would have to say it was one of the Ten Best Conversations In The History Of Mankind Ever.

It would be impossible to explain the dynamic of my friendship with Scott at this point; the most concise way to put it is that ever since we met, we seem to have been finding our way to each other at times of crisis. Not that our respective spouses are not ideal sources of comfort and consolation -- but sometimes I guess a person needs to spend time with people who don't know them nearly as well. And sometimes when we can't see ourselves in the eyes of the ones we're closest to, we go double check with somebody a little more removed from that circle to sort of help put things into perspective. Scott, my friend, if you see this any time soon, I hope you feel better. Thanks for the talk.

Today, it's windy. And beautiful.

What can I possibly say to that, but thank you? That does it little justice, but as you say, sometimes the sheer magnitude of it has to be compressed into wholly inadequate words.

Reese's Sugar-Free Peanut Butter Cups. Just don't eat too many at once, or you will discover why sugar-free chocolate has its own built-in limiting mechanism.

"For a Pagan, God is everywhere"...this reminds me so much of the song "The Christians and the Pagans". Love that song! :)
