Free Of Woe / Movie Date

Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003 - 11:36 a.m.

Today is Wednesday. I was born on a Wednesday.

According to the rhyme, Wednesday's Child Is Free Of Woe.

Well. I try. :)

---

Jamie and I are scheduled for a movie date. We're going to watch 'As Good As It Gets', tonight at seven my time, ten his time.

Have I ever explained how our movie dates work?

We haven't had one in awhile, and I meant to do a writeup about How This Is Done the next time we did one so I guess that's now.

Jamie and I each have a DVD player, and we each have an AT&T flat rate plan that allows us to call one another for as long as we wish without it costing anything other than the flat charge we pay (Around $20.00 a month).

What we do is, we pick out the DVD that we want to watch together, then we call each other, switch the player on, and go 'Three... two... one' and press start. And hope to goodness that our movies start at the same time. We turn up the volumes for a moment to listen to the others' movie to insure that we're synchronized -- and once we are, we settle back, with our phones connected, our headsets on, and our snack.

(Note to self: make cheese chips for tonight!)

Jamie is in New York, and I'm in California, so naturally, commuting and seeing movies in a theatre together in person is out of the budget. But this is almost as good on an emotional level; we each get to sit in our favorite chairs in our homes, and the floors aren't sticky and nobody's feet are in my back.

We're purchasing my train ticket tonight. The trip won't actually feel real until I have the ticket in my hands, so this is a major hurdle. It's really happening. I get to travel on a TRAIN. And I get to meet a good friend along with his family. Thanks again for the sofa space, Paul. Please forgive me if I seem more enthused about the trip than about the destination; that's certainly not the case -- but wow. Train travel.

---

My low-carb diet is easier than I thought it would be. Oh! Did I mention this already? Get THIS: I'm up to an hour of aerobics a day. I thought it would surely knock me sprawling, but I'm more fit than I should be, and that's been a pleasant realization for me.

---

And yes -- I'm already sick and tired of the Arnold Schwarzenegger puns.
