My Brother's Birthday Wednesday, Oct. 08, 2003 - 5:16 a.m. Today is my brother Jon's 34th birthday. He shares this day with Sigourney Weaver, Paul Hogan, and Matt Damon. --- The day before yesterday, Jon and I spoke about when to have Gran's service. We decided on Friday at noon. Last night, Aunt Nameless telephoned me to tell me the service was Friday at noon, and that she -hoped- I would be able to make it, and it was a -real pity- I couldn't be with her at the end, and that she was just -so sorry-. That's nice, dear. Thank you so much for telling me when the service is going to be. This is the same Aunt Nameless who stopped by the facility where Gran was a few days before her death, and demanded conservatorship of the estate. --- Here's my grandmother's obituary as it appears in the local paper, the Appeal-Democrat:
Marie C. Taylor, 90, of Yuba City died Oct. 2, 2003, at SunBridge Care Center in Yuba City. Born in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, she was a Yuba-Sutter resident for 59 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Cooper Avenue Baptist Church in Yuba City. Survivors include one grandson, Jon Landerman of Yuba City; and one granddaughter, Brin Marie McLaughlin of San Francisco. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer D. Taylor; a daughter, Jo Ann Landerman; four brothers; and three sisters. Donations may be made to a favorite charity. Services: A graveside service is scheduled at noon Friday at Sutter Cemetery. The Rev. Lewis McElfresh of Cooper Avenue Baptist Church will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel. It seems really strange to have actually seen it in the newspaper. They messed up, though; Jon's middle name was supposed to have been mentioned. It's 'Taylor', and he went and had it changed to that from his original middle name, as a gift to Gran and Pa Pa on their 50th wedding anniversary. In the meantime, I'm not sure what else today holds for me; I'm constantly amazed at the amount of support and strength coming from all directions, though. --- We have a new Governor in California -- Arnold Schwarzenegger. I wonder if our parents felt this gumfoozled those many years ago when Ronald Reagan took office? This whole week has seemed surreal. I will be glad when it's the weekend at long last. Before then, I get to speak to Cheri on Thursday evening -- yay! -- and I -think- Scott and I are going to have a movie date and watch 'Monsters, Inc' together sometime next week. We shall see. :) --- By the way -- for some reason, my comments counter is not working today; go ahead and click on it anyway, even if it says zero, as there have been several comments left here. ---
