Nick, Dick, and Click

Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 - 6:38 a.m.

How cool. Nick Chinn, our Macintosh guy, came up and visited us last night, and stayed and broke bread with us -- and did something that he's been doing for us for the last decade: He handed over an older piece of Macintosh equipment. He does this every time he upgrades.

Only this time -- wow.

He presented us with his Titanium Powerbook. I've never worked with a laptop before, so it's a wee bit awkward -- but John will be having his own computer back for the most part.

Hey, at least now the view might occasionally change from the webcam. :)

Nick also brought something up he thought I would be interested in seeing -- his girlfriend is a collector of Blythe dolls, which were manufactured by Kenner for one year in the early 70s. They had big heads and svelte bodies -- and the gimmick with this particular doll is that when you pull a string in their back, their eyes blink -- and change color. He's been collecting them for her, so on the off chance you have an old one laying around in relatively good condition, give me a shout, please.

As always, it was a great visit.

Today, Dick Clark is 74. I triple dog dare everybody out there who's reading this to look in his attic and find that portrait.

And today is also the birthday of one of my literary heroes. Mark Twain was born on this day in 1835. One of the most enduring things he ever said holds true over a hundred years later, and it's something I take to heart: "Always do right. This will gratify some people, and astonish the rest."

---

Gosh...

It's taken me about 45 minutes to share this little bit of my day with you.

The fact that I'm sitting in a recliner instead of over at the desk might have *something* to do with it.

And the fact that I'm still so new at this that I'm having to operate the touch pad with both hands is also a factor.

How was *your* weekend, friends?...
