Quiet Sunday Breathing

Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 - 8:40 a.m.

I had an asthma attack during Peter's visit. I was able to get to my breather and arrest the symptoms, but it was still annoying.

Yesterday, I woke up, coughing the dregs of my asthma attack up and out, and even after a shower, I still felt congested.

I took an Actifed, a Claritin, and two Sudafeds -- all this medicine I didn't feel like taking again, but that I had to take again.

I was knocked out for two hours in the middle of the afternoon.

I was suppoed to go to IKEA with John and pick up some furnishings. I was also supposed to take him to eat at Tommy's Mexican Restaurant. Neither of those things came to pass, due to me being zonked from the medication.

Which I don't feel like taking, but that I have to take.

Fuck.

---

So nothing of any importance happened yesterday, other than I got to chat with Jamie for a bit, and John and I got another one of our mandatory Christmas viewings done -- Holiday Inn, the DVD of which does in fact still include the number done in blackface in honor of Lincoln's birthday.

I wasn't able to get out and go do stuff. But I stayed in and did stuff, so it's okay.

---

I see in the news that a substition is taking place --

NEW YORK (AP) - Regis Philbin will fill in as host of ABC's ``New Year's Rockin' Eve 2005'' for Dick Clark, who suffered a mild stroke last week, the network announced Monday.

Philbin, co-host of the syndicated ``Regis & Kelly,'' has made subbing for ailing entertainers something of a specialty, coming to David Letterman's aid when Letterman underwent heart bypass surgery in 2000 and recovered from an eye infection in 2003.

Clark remains hospitalized following his stroke, spokesman Paul Shefrin said, but is ``getting better every day.''

In a statement, Clark said his doctors advised against the New Year's Eve duties, saying it was too soon.

The 75-year-old Clark has been host of a New Year's Eve special for 32 years.

Philbin will be joined by singer Ashlee Simpson, who's hosting the West Coast part of the show. Besides Simpson, performers include Big & Rich, Ciara, Earth, Wind & Fire, Good Charlotte and Billy Idol.

``It's the greatest `temp job' in the world,'' Philbin said.

Then I got all curious about something. Who is older, Regis Philbin or Dick Clark?

So I went to The Internet Movie Database, and looked up their birthdays, and found to my astonishment that Dick Clark (November 30, 1929) is about a year and a half older than Regis Philbin (August 25, 1931).

Nice to know that whippersnapper Philbin was able to step up to the plate.

See ya next time. :-)
