Dash Of Reality

Friday, Aug. 26, 2005 - 6:00 a.m.

Last night I received an extremely intriguing statement in IMs regarding what I said in yesterday's post.

I was told that I 'am so on the doctor's side' and that I've 'forgotten what it's like to be a bigger person.'

My answer (copied directly from the IM text:) "I will never forget what it's like to not be able to sit comfortably in a bus or not cross my legs at the theatre or grunt getting in and out of a car or lose my breath going up a single flight of stairs or chosing not to go out to the movies with friends to avoid embarrassment or not being able to even wipe myself after I pee. I won't forget any of those things even though none of those things happen to me anymore."

The thing is, I'm still big. I'm still about 40-50 lbs away from goal. My highest weight was right around three hundred pounds, but I stopped stepping on the scale when I saw it hit 281. I -know- I went up past that, though, by a very considerable amount.

This has not been an instant progress. It's taken me five years to lose a hundred pounds. I've taken my time because I didn't want to look like an empty duffel bag, and now that I am forty, things just don't snap back the way they useta, if you get my drift. A year and a half ago, I went low-carb, and approximately fifty pounds fell off in six months. I've maintained that loss within ten pounds of the lowest weight I achieved, and I will probably reach goal by 2007, which will be my 25th high school reunion.

Anyway. I consider the matter dealt with and my statements from yesterday still stand.

Lance Armstrong. I'd like to have that seven year old urine sample of his tested to make sure his are the -only- DNA markers found in that urine.

I also want a complete list of staff people who had access to his samples, and a list of the other samples they handled. Armstrong gave seventeen samples in 1999, and six of them are questionable. If he'd been using that blood boosting drug thing, wouldn't ALL of them turn up dirty?

Lance Armstrong is arguably the most scrutinized and tested athlete in the universe. If he used EPO in one year, then what on earth explains his ability to win the rest of the races in the rest of the years?

Last night we went for a drive down to Denny's in Pacifica.

There was so much stuff in the air that it distorted the shape of the sun when it set:

Dinner was lovely, and when we got back home, I took a picture of John.

He is still happy about the car.

We decided on a name for it -- "Dash".

I think that's it. I'll post again when the Friday Five appears. :-)
