Working Perfectly

Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 - 12:36 a.m.

The computer is fine. Twas your humble host that was the problem.

I fooled around too much with the cord, which is round and has to grip the thing it's being plugged into, until the cord end was oblong and not providing a charge.

My bad. Pebcak.

---

When we got to the Mac place, I pulled the machine out and said I had a problem. "There's no juice going into the hole."

The gal behind the counter looked at me for a very long moment and then she said, "So, your power cord doesn't light up when you plug it in, and your battery is not charging."

I smiled and said, "Yes, in a manner of speaking. Thank you."

The first thing she did was go and place it on a flat surface, open it and turn it on, and plug an in-house cord into it.

Naturally it worked PERFECTLY. She then felt the actual DC input to see if it was loose, and it was not.

So at the cost of eighty-seven dollars and an admonition from she who sold me the new cord, AND from John, I am now back on the air.

On the way back to San Francisco, we saw the banner form of the ubiquitous notice that's been seen all around the Bay Area:

And after our lunch in Pacifica, we were driving up Skyline Boulevard when I saw the car do this:

The car is seven years old. We've only driven it 16,000 miles in the four years we have owned it.

---

We got home, I unwrapped the cord, plugged it in and inserted it into the laptop.

And yay. All is well.

---

Nothing else to report. Have a good Thursday.
